The weather could not have been much better for today's race! We started to setup about 6:00 am, got the lights going and packet pickup started on time. The race started on time and we had our last year's champion Andrew Henshaw return for 2011.
The first loop Andrew came through the first lap in 1:14:33 and the women's leader and last years runner up Merita Trohimovich came through in 1:28:57, Andrew's next lap was 1:11:04 and Merita came through in 1:29:05. Neither one was challenged the last lap but they still ran strong! Andrew's 3rd lap was 1:11:03 and Merita's was 1:37:20. Merita won the race in 4:25:23 and took home the $100.00 prize money and also won the overall master division for a total of $150.00 and both award plaques. Andrew finished the race up in an amazing time of 3:36:41 and also took home the $100.00 prize money as well as the bonus of $50.00 for the new course record!
I'm certainly no writer and when I get some more time I'll try to add to the days events.
Thank you to everyone who came out to make this event another success! |

| Tony S. and I headed out about 3:30 pm to start marking the trails and putting out the trail signs. Just before dusk is a awesome time to be running in the trails, the nightlife starts to come alive with deer and racoons coming out. We ran into "The Beast" and Anna out in the trails doing a little course preview before tomorrows race. Who runs a 50k loop course preview the day before?! The Beast does! We finished up with head lamps blazing about 7:30 pm. It's going to be an early morning so off to bed I go! Link to today's trail marking run HERE << |

| Met Tony S. down at Owens Beach, cleaned trail leading to Nelly's Gnarly Descent and hung some ropes. Trail run followed with last years champion joining us at mile 1.5 of the 50k loop. The pace was a little to much for Tony and Andrew so I ended up running the last 4 miles alone. HA, not really they had things to do! Fun run and the trails are in great shape for Saturday's race! Garmin link here to today's run. |

| It's so cool to hear the waking animal sounds from the zoo. If you have never been there just before sunrise you should put it on your to do list! I needed a longer run so I started at 7:00 am solo, Nelly's Gnarly Descent had some more work done on it by Mike Lynes, Mike added some steps which is a huge improvement but we'll still add some ropes for race day. I met with the group after one loop and we stayed together until Achilles Hill where we broke into two groups. Everybody did great, good pace and everyone finished strong. Here is the link to our run HERE << One week to go! Have a great weekend! |

| Did a facebook post and no bites so I ran solo, man the guys have done a great job on the trails! Pushed it a little harder than I was wanting to but... when it's just you, the trees and awesome views the pace is easy to pick up. I am so lucky to have Pt Defiance in my backyard, an easy 10 minute jog and I'm in 700 acres of forest. Saw Mr. Mike's car in the lot as I was leaving and I'm sure he was doing the same thing as I. | Great day for a run, ran with the Piercy's. On the trail we saw a Tony Seabolt sighting, Romey sighting too, you just never know what you'll see in them thar woods. Stopped at the fixed bathrooms at Ft Nisqually and saw a great vantage point for our race day photographer, just as the runners round the NE corner of the Fort heading across the field would be a great shot! Here is the link to our run today HERE << *we started at the park entrance today not the race day start line at Owens Beach. |

Lots of rain last night and the trails held up good thanks to all the trail work this summer. I flagged the new loop after you cross the Salmon Beach road I also added some new bright pink flagging to the cable that crosses the path in the dog park area. I started and finished at Owens Beach today. Here is the link to my Garmin http://connect.garmin.com/activity/117334047
As usual it's short. The course was measured using a mountain bike with Jones counter. |

| Great morning for a run, we had a couple of new faces with us today and was even joined by the renowned Ultra Marathon runner (Larry Abraham:) Mark set a good pace for us and we finished the loop around 1:40:00. If you do look at my Garmin link the start / finish is not the part of the Ultra Course although all of the trails are the actual course. It's exciting to see how popular the 50k is this year, registrations are way up in the 50k so far. At one point early I forgot to start my watch so I lost about 3/4 of a mile. Here is the link have a great weekend! LINK HERE |

| Its getting close to race day, we have two minor changes to the course this year. The first is after you cross the road to Salmon Beach (after the dog park we added a small loop across the road, I'll mark that section with flagging this weekend so you can see the new addition. Next after you cross the road below Camp 6 (fire hydrant 50) you will now turn directly left we are removing the loop closer to the zoo. The start point is different on this garmin gps map so don't pay attention to that but the changes are on this link, again the start finish is still at Owens Beach. Link HERE << |

| March 6th: Ran 2 loops plus with Dave M. 44:39 - 38:07 = 1:21:46 / 43:45 - 37:31 = 1:21:16. Trails were pretty dry which for made easier running. |
| |
| March 2nd: Easy day on the trails with Dave. Bathrooms locked up at Fort Nisqually. Rain - 1:26:30. |
| |
| March 1st: Reached Fort Nisqually at 44:59 - finish 37:27 = 1:21:27. Thought more about course markings for race day. Laying new bark at all turns with flagging should work well. |
