COURSE MAP HERE <<

Start - Finish: Owens Beach

The course is approximately three 16 kilometer loops through old growth forest. Each loop will come by the start - finish.

Course is mostly single track and typically dry mid October. Train for some hills but the course is 95% runable.

Aid Station will be available at approximately mile 4.5 of the 10.3 mile loop course. Aid will also be available at the Start / Finish. Each loop comes through the Start / Finish.

On the course you will see sweeping views of the Puget Sound, run on soft trails beneath 500 year old giant cedars and firs in one of the top 20 urban parks in the United States.

Course design up to this point is primarily by Mike Lynes with technical consulting by Tony Phillippi, both have logged many miles through the forest.

Course ramblings from tony phillippi..
July 28th: Started at the top of the stair case at the playground. Garmin Link HERE <<

July 21st: First group tour of the 50K course. Thanks for coming out everyone! Didn't get a accurate time with my watch approximately 1:36:00

July 19th: Ran at noon today just before the sun broke through. Trails are in great shape! Saw two deer near the Zoo parking lot then saw two more deer below Ft. Nisqually and had a Dave Miller sighting too! 1:19:39

July 14th: Previewed the course with Rich Neely and Daryl Montgomery today. Rich didn't care much for the newly named descent (Gnarly Neely trail) to Owens Beach. 1:26:38

July 12th: 1:20:42, felt good to run a little faster today. Saw a few deer and of course some raccoons!

July 7th: Easy day, still trying to recover from Ironman. 1:26:58

June 11th: After working all day on the S2N set up with Tony Seabolt, Tony and I hit the trails to run the 50K route. Muddy trails but a fun run. Tony knew most of the course but knows it all now:) 1:24:18

June 6th: Muddy trails in June? Ran into local ultra runner below Fort Nisqually, gave him the url for Defiance 50K. Burned out but nice to be on the trails! 1:25:08

May 21st: I'm back from the roads! 1:20:06 felt real good on the legs, muddy trails, Oh yea baby!

March 11th: After yesterdays long run I needed a easy low heart rate day. Pouring rain in the sloppy mud, windy on the east side of the park. 1:27:15.

March 9th: St Patty's Day Party at the Dock... but got a run in first! 14 miles including one loop on the course in 1:20:52.

  March 6th: Ran 2 loops plus with Dave M. 44:39 - 38:07 = 1:21:46 / 43:45 - 37:31 = 1:21:16. Trails were pretty dry which for made easier running.

March 2nd: Easy day on the trails with Dave. Bathrooms locked up at Fort Nisqually. Rain - 1:26:30.

March 1st: Reached Fort Nisqually at 44:59 - finish 37:27 = 1:21:27. Thought more about course markings for race day. Laying new bark at all turns with flagging should work well.

February 27th: Ran two loops with Paul, 1:28 & 1:29 for each loop. Heard eagles but didn't see any. Lots of runners on the roads and trails. Fun run!

February 23rd: Ran with Dave today. 6.5 mile section has had some nice trail maintenance done. We got to Ft Nisqually in 44:22 - finish 37:27 = 1:21:50. Got to dark so the last 5 were on the 5 mile drive. Great raining day for a run!

February 20th: Beautiful day for a run. 1:20:36 in the middle of my 20 miler.

February 15th: Not to muddy, ran with Mike. He let me set the pace the first half. We reached Fort Nisqually in 42:51 second half was 34:59. Total time: 1:17:50.

February 13th: Ran the course with Dave Miller. Rain & Mud, quick pace. We reached Fort Nisqaully in 47:00. Total time was 1:21:52 no out & back. Dave's Garmin read 9.6 miles.

February 9th: Ran the course with Van "Pigtails" Phan today. Awesome weather, low 40's, fog lifting as we ran. Took Mike's new finish trail down to the beach. 1:30:42 approximately 9.9 miles on Van's foot pod with no out & back.

January 10th: Ran with Paul, no out and back addition at the start. Time was 1:26:38 Paul's Garmin reading was 9.3 miles. Paul's Garmin course route HERE <<
